Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed today that Thibaut Courtois will be returning to Stamford Bridge next season, at the conclusion of his loan spell at Atlético Madrid.

The 22-year old was signed by Chelsea in 2011 but he has yet to make an appearance for the Blues. He has spent a number of seasons with Diego Simeone’s side where he has established himself as one of the best ‘keepers in Europe.

Belgian Courtois spoke this season of how he feels little attachment to Chelsea because he was immediately farmed out when he joined the club, but he will be keen to challenge Petr Cech for the number 1 shirt and looks set to become a mainstay of the club’s rearguard for some years to come.

Speaking to Spanish sports newspaper Marca, Mourinho said: “When the World Cup in Brazil is over, Courtois will be coming straight back to Stamford Bridge – end of story.”

Courtois kept 20 clean sheets in 37 games for Los Colchoneros last season.
